“Debris from Intercepted Iranian Missile Strikes Dubai Hotel”

On February 28, debris from an intercepted Iranian missile hit the Fairmont The Palm, a luxury hotel on Dubai’s manmade archipelago, breaching the country’s advanced missile defense system and its secure image.

For years, the United Arab Emirates has portrayed itself as a thriving economic and cultural center connecting European and Asian markets.

Stephen J. Fallon, a political analyst with experience in the UAE, noted that the region’s long-standing stability and security have been shattered by recent events.

The Emirates, known for its pristine streets and towering structures, has attracted millions of expatriates seeking a better life over the years.

As of 2024, the UAE’s population stood at approximately 11.3 million, with the majority being expatriates and not nationals.

However, following significant strikes by the US and Israel against Iran, the UAE experienced unprecedented attacks, leading to a shift in the perception of safety and security in the region.

‘Unfamiliar Sounds’

Rashad-Asaad Masri, a Lebanese expatriate in Dubai, moved to the UAE attracted by the promise of a better economic future and strong governmental support, contrasting with his experience in Lebanon.

Recent strikes by Iran targeted US bases and civilian infrastructure across the Gulf, particularly affecting the UAE.

Iran has launched numerous missiles and drones towards the UAE, creating a sense of unfamiliarity and insecurity among residents.

According to eyewitnesses like Alexander Debare, the sudden loud noises of intercepted missiles have disrupted the usual tranquility of the region.

The UAE government has reported casualties and damages from the attacks, with three fatalities and several injuries caused by falling debris and drone strikes.
