Netflix has announced its plans to adapt the popular book “Icebreaker” by author Hannah Grace into a college romance drama series. The book, which became a bestseller in 2022, tells the story of figure skater Anastasia Allen and hockey team captain Nate Hawkins who fall in love while sharing the ice at the fictional University of California, Maple Hills campus.
Described as a tale of ambition and love, “Icebreaker” has sold nearly five million copies and has been translated into 24 languages. Netflix revealed that the series will explore the relationship between Anastasia and Nate as they navigate their competitive worlds and their growing attraction to each other.
Jinny Howe, Netflix’s head of scripted series for the U.S. and Canada, made the announcement at the Banff World Media Festival, expressing confidence in the project’s potential success. The upcoming series follows the footsteps of the hit show “Heated Rivalry,” based on novels by Rachel Reid, which garnered critical acclaim and recognition.
“Icebreaker” is set to captivate audiences with its blend of romance and sports drama, adding to the rising popularity of sports romance books, particularly within the hockey genre. The show’s showrunner, Amanda Lasher, brings her expertise from working on popular series like “Riverdale” and “Gossip Girl” to create an engaging and steamy narrative for viewers to enjoy.
