The new Defence Investment Agency has revealed the initial eight projects under its management as announced by the federal government. These projects encompass significant military procurements, such as Canada’s upcoming fleet of submarines, Arctic over-the-horizon radar systems, and a fleet of early warning-and-control surveillance aircraft. Additionally, the agency will oversee in-service support and software updates for the CC-130J Hercules transport aircraft and satellite communications acquisitions. Notably, the agency is not currently overseeing the procurement of land vehicles or fighter jets.
Former banker Doug Guzman is leading the agency, which is tasked with handling projects valued at over $100 million. The disclosure of these projects by the Liberal government was prompted by a research request from Conservative MP Scott Anderson and presented in documents submitted to Parliament on Friday. Prime Minister Mark Carney had promised to establish the agency during the spring election to streamline defense procurement processes and expedite the acquisition of equipment for the Canadian Armed Forces.
