Tom Holland, aged 30, faced a formidable opponent on a recent installment of the popular YouTube series Hot Ones: extremely spicy chicken wings. Joined by Jon Bernthal, aged 49, his co-star in The Odyssey and the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the duo engaged in the show’s signature challenge of answering questions while consuming progressively fiery wings.
While Holland successfully conquered all 10 rounds, the real trial came post-wing consumption. In an unprecedented moment for the show’s 11-year run, Holland became the first guest to vomit during an episode. The incident occurred off-camera as they were recording the outro segment.
Amidst the aftermath, Bernthal cheered on, capturing the moment with enthusiasm. Holland, maintaining good spirits, joked about his lack of vomit on his designer clothes. Reflecting on the incident, host Sean Evans acknowledged the rarity of such an occurrence on the set.
The climax of the fiery challenge occurred during the notorious “last dab,” where guests coat their final wing with the spiciest sauce. Holland and Bernthal bravely attempted to consume the entire wing, leading to their eventual regret and physical distress.
Despite the spicy ordeal, Holland managed to express his admiration for Bernthal, emphasizing the importance of having mentors in the industry. The emotional moment showcased their longstanding friendship, which began nearly a decade ago during the filming of Pilgrimage.
The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan, achieved significant success, grossing over $260 million globally in its opening weekend, marking a milestone for the filmmaker. Fans can anticipate the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31.
