“Trump and Netanyahu Push for Gaza Peace Deal”

U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held crucial discussions on Monday regarding a Gaza peace initiative to end an ongoing conflict that has led to Israel facing increased international isolation. This was Netanyahu’s fourth visit since Trump’s return to office in January, with the Israeli leader aiming to strengthen the vital relationship between the two countries following recent support for Palestinian statehood from Western leaders.

President Trump, who had criticized the recognition of Hamas as a reward, sought Netanyahu’s support for a framework to resolve the conflict in Gaza and secure the release of remaining hostages held by the militants. This diplomatic push reflects Trump’s commitment from the 2024 presidential campaign to swiftly resolve the conflict, despite previous unsuccessful attempts.

During the meeting, Trump aimed to address any remaining differences with Netanyahu after presenting a 21-point peace plan to Arab and Muslim nations on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly last week. Meanwhile, Israeli forces continued their offensive in Gaza City as Netanyahu expressed determination to eliminate Hamas from their remaining strongholds.

Netanyahu was warmly greeted by Trump upon his arrival at the White House, contrasting with the lukewarm reception he received at the UN General Assembly where numerous delegates protested and walked out. Despite Netanyahu’s praise for Trump as a close ally, there are concerns within Israel and among Arab nations regarding the proposed peace plan.

The plan, developed by U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s Middle East adviser Jared Kushner, outlines a ceasefire agreement, the prompt release of remaining hostages by Hamas, and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. Previous ceasefire attempts have failed due to the gap between Israel and Hamas, with Netanyahu reaffirming his commitment to combating Hamas until its complete dismantlement.
