Joni Mitchell and Nelly Furtado to Receive Honors at 55th Juno Awards

Joni Mitchell and Nelly Furtado are set to be recognized at the upcoming 55th Juno Awards scheduled for March in Hamilton. The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and CBC revealed on Monday that Mitchell will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by the National Arts Centre, while Furtado will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame during the 2026 Juno Awards at Hamilton’s newly inaugurated TD Coliseum.

Mitchell, a four-time Juno recipient, will be acknowledged for her groundbreaking career spanning several decades and her significant influence on global music culture. She was previously inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame back in 1981.

Furtado’s induction into the Hall of Fame will celebrate her consistent chart-topping success, multiple Juno, Grammy, and Latin Grammy wins, and her impact on the pop music scene since the early 2000s. She joins a list of recent inductees that includes Sum 41, Maestro Fresh Wes, Nickelback, Deborah Cox, and Jann Arden.

The Juno Awards are making a comeback to Hamilton after a ten-year hiatus, with local favorites Arkells headlining the event. Also gracing the stage will be Toronto band the Beaches, both of whom have been longstanding fixtures at the Juno Awards, with Arkells winning nine Junos, six of which were for Group of the Year, since 2010, and the Beaches securing victory in all five categories they’ve been nominated for since 2018.

CARAS President and CEO Allan Reid expressed excitement about returning to Hamilton, emphasizing the city’s strong musical heritage. The lineup for the event, featuring Joni Mitchell and Nelly Furtado, two of Canada’s most influential artists, is seen as a fitting tribute to the country’s rich musical legacy.

In addition to the awards ceremony, the Junos and MusiCounts will collaborate on a special industry exchange program, connecting ten music educators with ten local musicians from Hamilton for a community-building and hands-on learning initiative.

The 2026 Juno Awards are scheduled for March 29 at 8 p.m. ET at the TD Coliseum in Hamilton. Tickets will go on sale on November 28 at 10 a.m. ET, with an early-access pre-sale code (CBCMUSIC) available for use on November 27 at 10 a.m. Tickets can be purchased through the official website.
