Stellantis received over $18.6 million in the 2023 fiscal year and an additional $85.9 million in 2024 to retool its Windsor and Brampton facilities, a fraction of the $529 million commitment made by Ottawa in 2022 to enhance electric vehicle production in Canada. Minister Mélanie Joly confirmed a review of confidential agreements to assess if Stellantis’ relocation plans breached any terms.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has indicated discussions with Stellantis regarding a new production strategy for Brampton contingent on trade negotiations, particularly the upcoming review of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).
