“Felix Auger-Aliassime Claims European Open Title”

Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime clinched another championship by triumphing at the European Open in Belgium over the weekend. The 25-year-old Canadian secured victory on the hard courts of the ATP 250 tournament in Brussels by defeating Jiri Lehecka from the Czech Republic with a score of 7-6(2), 6-7(7), 6-2.

Auger-Aliassime, seeded as the No. 2 player in the tournament, showcased an impressive performance, serving 17 aces during the two-hour and 34-minute match and maintaining a solid 79% first-serve points won. Despite losing the second set, he maintained control by converting two out of six break-point opportunities while denying Lehecka any break-point chances.

Reflecting on his victory, Auger-Aliassime commented, “It’s the final, so we put everything on the line. I feel like we were both extremely focused from the beginning. It was a high level for two sets, then you don’t know how things can go. But I’m obviously glad.”

This win marks Auger-Aliassime’s eighth career title and his third of the year, following earlier victories in Montpellier, France, and Adelaide, Australia, at the beginning of 2025. With this achievement, he joins Milos Raonic as the Canadian men with the most singles titles in the Open era. Currently ranked 13th globally, he has dropped from his previous position of 6th in November 2022.
