A teenager from the Edmonton region is facing fresh charges after being placed under a terrorism peace bond due to suspected ties to an online network promoting violent extremism. Initially detained in May, the 15-year-old had a peace bond initiated by the RCMP over concerns of terrorism. Authorities indicated they had reason to believe the teenager would engage in terrorism-related activities connected to the 764 online network. This network targets vulnerable youngsters through gaming platforms such as Minecraft and Roblox, drawing them into private online conversations.
As per the RCMP, the 764 network encourages young individuals to engage in sexual acts, self-harm, and animal cruelty. Certain components of the network are reported to possess extreme ideological perspectives, exploiting and radicalizing children towards violence. Authorities stated that the recent charges were prompted by “escalatory behavior in a February 2025 incident.” A peace bond enables authorities to supervise individuals deemed at risk of committing crimes in the absence of concrete evidence of an actual offense.
Following a forensic analysis of the teen’s electronic devices, the RCMP brought forth new allegations, including participation in terrorist group activities, promoting hatred, making threats, and possessing child sexual abuse material. Although the police have refrained from disclosing additional details about the adolescent due to protection under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, it has been confirmed that the individual is male through previous court appearances covered by CBC News. The teenager remains in custody at the Edmonton Young Offender Centre, as confirmed by the RCMP. A court appearance for the teen is scheduled for Friday.
