Three suicide bombers attacked the headquarters of a Pakistani paramilitary force, resulting in the deaths of three personnel and injuring at least five individuals, according to authorities.
The assailants initiated gunfire while forcibly entering the Federal Constabulary headquarters in Peshawar city before detonating themselves within the premises, as per police reports.
Javed Iqbal, the deputy commandant of the force, confirmed the fatalities of three paramilitary members.
A senior official, speaking on condition of anonymity as not authorized to address the media, revealed, “The initial suicide bomber targeted the main entrance, with others subsequently breaching the compound.”
“Law enforcement, including army and police units, have secured the vicinity and are managing the situation cautiously due to suspicions of potential terrorists inside the headquarters,” added the official.
The headquarters of the paramilitary force is situated in a densely populated section of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
“The army, police, and security personnel have sealed off the road and restricted traffic in the area,” mentioned Safdar Khan, a local resident, to Reuters.
Militant Attacks on the Rise
The five wounded individuals, including two paramilitary members, were transported to Lady Reading Hospital, as confirmed by spokesperson Mohammad Asim.
Thus far, no militant group has claimed responsibility for the assault.
Recent weeks have witnessed an escalation of attacks by Islamist militants in the region following deadly border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan last month.
Pakistan accuses the Afghan Taliban of sheltering these militants who allegedly launch cross-border assaults, a claim denied by Kabul.
