WARNING: This article discusses accusations of sexual misconduct.
Renowned British comedian Russell Brand entered a plea of not guilty on Tuesday regarding fresh charges of rape and sexual assault.
Brand, who was already confronting similar accusations involving four individuals, refuted the new charges during his appearance at Southwark Crown Court. The incidents in question reportedly occurred in 2009, as per the Crown Prosecution Service.
Last April, the 50-year-old comedian faced charges of two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault.
Prosecutors stated that the allegations spanned between 1999 and 2005, involving four women in total — one incident allegedly took place in the coastal town of Bournemouth, while the other three occurred in London. Brand previously pleaded not guilty to these charges in a London court earlier this year.
A trial is slated for June and is anticipated to span four to five weeks.
A hearing is scheduled for next month to determine whether the new allegations will be consolidated with the ongoing case, with Brand’s legal counsel citing the need for additional time to address the latest charges.
During his court appearance on Tuesday, Brand sported a white cowboy hat and sunglasses. When asked about his well-being, Brand, who declared his Christian faith in 2024, responded to reporters saying he feels “blessed.”
Brand was a prominent figure on British television screens in the 2000s, recognized for his flamboyant persona and style, and his stint as a radio host for the BBC.
The actor from Get Him To The Greek, known for his provocative stand-up comedy, has struggled with substance abuse issues and retreated from mainstream media in recent times. He has amassed a significant online following through videos that blend wellness tips with conspiracy theories, along with discussions about his religious beliefs.
Multiple women are accusing comedian Russell Brand of sexual assault during the peak of his career, a joint investigation by British news outlets reveals. Brand has denied these allegations.
