“Zelenskyy to Discuss Missile Supply with Trump in Washington”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced plans for a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on Friday to discuss Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and long-range strike options. The two leaders recently engaged in discussions regarding the potential supply of long-range Tomahawk missiles to Kyiv. A Ukrainian delegation, led by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, is scheduled to visit Washington before the upcoming meeting.

Kyiv has been advocating for the acquisition of U.S.-manufactured Tomahawk missiles, emphasizing their intended use solely for military purposes and not as a provocation. The possibility of such a supply has raised concerns in Moscow, which views it as a significant escalation in the region.

Zelenskyy disclosed that he had briefed Trump on the quantity of Tomahawk missiles Ukraine requires, highlighting the importance of an in-person meeting for certain sensitive discussions. Trump has expressed willingness to consider providing the missiles to Ukraine, while also mentioning the potential for dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin on this matter.

In addition to the missile discussions, Ukraine and the U.S. are nearing a significant agreement involving the sharing of drone technology. This collaboration is seen as a strategic move to maintain the U.S. president’s interest and support for Ukraine, as diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict have faced obstacles due to increased Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure.

Zelenskyy also revealed plans to meet with representatives from U.S. energy companies to address Ukraine’s evolving energy needs amidst changing Russian tactics targeting Ukrainian energy facilities. Recent attacks by Russian forces on Ukrainian gas production and power infrastructure have heightened concerns, potentially leading to Ukraine needing to import electricity. Meanwhile, Ukraine has retaliated by targeting Russian oil refineries, resulting in gasoline shortages in the region.
