Atlético Ottawa secures a place in the final of the Canadian Premier League following a remarkable 2-1 comeback victory against Forge FC on Sunday. The triumph on the road at Hamilton Stadium in the CPL’s championship semifinal sets up a decisive match at TD Place on November 9 for Atlético.
Despite finishing just two points behind Ottawa in the CPL standings, Forge FC, who topped the table, still have a chance to reach the final by winning the upcoming contender semifinal match.
The game on Sunday started with Forge FC taking the lead in the 23rd minute through a goal by David Choinière. However, Ottawa leveled the score ten minutes later when Gabriel Antinoro found the back of the net for Atlético. In the early stages of the second half, Atlético’s top scorer, Sam Salter, who holds the CPL single-season goal-scoring record, sealed the victory with a crucial header.
Having faced each other four times in the regular season, the two teams had three draws and Forge FC claimed victory in the fourth encounter.
