The story delves into the operations of a website named Entropy, which the creators claim to be a “safe haven for monetization.” However, an investigation by the fifth estate uncovered that the platform is a breeding ground for white supremacists and extremists looking to profit from their hateful content streamed to online audiences.
Since its launch in Calgary in 2019, Entropy has processed over $3 million in transactions, becoming a key fundraising tool for numerous neo-Nazis and white supremacists who were banned from mainstream platforms like YouTube for spreading antisemitic and racist material.
Jeff Tischauser, an analyst at the Southern Poverty Law Center, noted that around half of the hate groups he monitors in the U.S. rely on Entropy for fundraising. These groups use the money to fuel their activities, including traveling to spread hatred and harassment.
One group, the Goyim Defense League, raised funds via Entropy during a visit to Nashville in 2024, where they engaged in antisemitic actions and assaults. The group’s activities, funded through the platform, have been linked to real-world violence, including a school shooting.
The founders of Entropy, Emmanuel and Rachel Constantinidis, along with David Bell, have relocated to Tbilisi, Georgia, while still operating the platform from Canada. The trio has been associated with creating a space where hate groups can freely express their ideologies and gather financial support, all while evading regulations that restrict hateful content on mainstream platforms.
While Canadian laws have limitations in defining and regulating online hate speech, efforts to introduce bills like Bill C-63 have aimed to address harmful content online. However, the fight against online hate remains challenging, as platforms like Entropy continue to provide a space for hate groups to profit without facing significant consequences.
The lack of stringent regulations around online hate content poses risks to public safety, allowing individuals to use funds acquired through platforms like Entropy to carry out harmful actions in the real world.
