Hyundai has issued a safety advisory regarding the seatbelt system in certain 2026 Palisade models. An alert on Transport Canada’s Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database reveals that in some vehicles, the wiring for the third-row, left-hand side seatbelt can sustain damage if pulled, leading to a misleading indication that the seatbelt is fastened when it is not. This malfunction could result in confusion as the seatbelt status indicator may not work accurately, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a collision.
Approximately 4,203 vehicles in Canada may be impacted by this seatbelt issue. Hyundai plans to inform affected drivers via written notification and recommend that they visit a dealership to rectify the seatbelt wiring problem. Alternatively, drivers can check if their vehicle is affected by entering their VIN on Hyundai’s online recall lookup website or by calling 1-888-216-2626.
Earlier this year, Hyundai initiated a recall of numerous vehicles in the U.S. and Canada, halting sales of specific Palisades due to a separate issue where certain power seats in the second and third rows failed to stop moving upon contact with a passenger or object. This recall was prompted by a tragic incident in Ohio where a two-year-old child lost their life.
