“Environmental journalist and Kennedy descendant dies at 35”

Environmental journalist Tatiana Schlossberg, who was a granddaughter of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, has passed away at the age of 35. The news of her death was shared by the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation on social media. Schlossberg, the daughter of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, had revealed her terminal cancer diagnosis in an essay published in The New Yorker in November 2025.

Schlossberg was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in May 2024 at the age of 34. Following the birth of her second child, she underwent treatments including chemotherapy and two stem cell transplants. In her essay titled “A Battle With My Blood,” she detailed her struggles with the disease and criticized certain healthcare policies advocated by her relative, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Having worked as a reporter covering climate change and the environment for the New York Times, Schlossberg was also an award-winning author for her book “Inconspicuous Consumption: The Environmental Impact You Don’t Know You Have.” In her poignant essay, she expressed her fears about not being able to see her children grow up and the sorrow of leaving her husband, George Moran, behind.

Schlossberg’s family history includes tragedies such as the assassinations of her grandfather John F. Kennedy, her great-uncle Robert F. Kennedy, and the death of her uncle John F. Kennedy Jr. in a plane crash in 1999. Despite her own health struggles, she reflected on her life and the impact of her illness on her loved ones in her heartfelt writings.
