“Canadian Figure Skater Laurence Fournier Beaudry Gains French Citizenship for Olympic Bid”

Laurence Fournier Beaudry, a 33-year-old Canadian-born figure skater, revealed her acquisition of French citizenship on Saturday. This development allows her to partner with Guillaume Cizeron and represent France at the upcoming Milan-Cortina Olympics. Cizeron, an Olympic ice dance champion, joined forces with Fournier Beaudry in March. This decision came after Fournier Beaudry’s previous partner, Nikolaj Sorensen, received a six-year suspension for “sexual maltreatment.”

Expressing her excitement on Instagram, Fournier Beaudry expressed gratitude to those supporting her on this journey. It is common for skaters in ice dance and pairs figure skating to switch nationalities due to limited partnership options. Cizeron, aged 30, along with Gabriella Papadakis, claimed the gold medal at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and secured five world titles before retiring in December 2024.

Returning to competition earlier this year, Cizeron, now partnering with Fournier Beaudry, clinched victory at the Grand Prix de France. The duo showcased their talent and skill, winning the ice dance title at the event.
