“Huskies’ Epic Comeback Secures Hardy Cup Victory”

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies secured a narrow victory over the Regina Rams with a score of 25-24 in the Hardy Cup, clinching the Canada West football championship and seeking redemption for last year’s 19-14 loss. This marked the 88th Hardy Cup and only the second all-Saskatchewan championship match in over two decades, also being the first consecutive provincial final between these two teams. The Regina Rams had previously claimed their first all-Saskatchewan Hardy Cup in more than 20 years during the previous season.

In a dramatic turnaround, the Huskies, trailing 24-9 in the fourth quarter, staged an impressive comeback by scoring 16 unanswered points to seize the title. Kicker Lucas Scott sealed the victory with a crucial field goal, emphasizing the significance of the moment for the team.

Runningback Ryker Frank, a seasoned fifth-year player, hailed the team’s resilience during the second-half rally, attributing their success to unwavering faith and execution under pressure. Coach Scott Flory commended the team’s composure in the final moments despite facing challenges and emphasized the importance of making crucial plays when needed.

Following this triumph, the Huskies stand one win away from competing in the Vanier Cup, scheduled to take place in Regina later this month, a historic moment as the game will be held in the city for the first time and only the third time in Western Canada. Their next challenge is the Mitchell Bowl against Queen’s University in Saskatchewan next week, with Frank underscoring the team’s dedication and ethos as instrumental in preparing for significant matchups.

Having previously clinched the Hardy Cup in 2021 and 2022 but falling short in the Vanier Cup both times, the Huskies entered the postseason with an impressive 7-1 regular-season record, securing the top spot in the six-team Canada West conference. On the other hand, the Rams advanced to the final after a thrilling 32-29 double-overtime victory over the Manitoba Bisons in the semi-finals.

The upcoming Mitchell Bowl is scheduled for November 15 at 2:15 p.m. CST, setting the stage for another intense matchup as the Huskies continue their quest for championship glory.
