The Canadian hockey-themed series titled “Heated Rivalry” has secured a prestigious Peabody Award. Launched in November 2025, the production by Crave and Bell Media, distributed through HBO Max in the U.S., quickly gained popularity, emerging as an unexpected success story. The show was recently recognized as one of 11 outstanding TV programs in the entertainment category by the Peabody Awards jurors.
According to a press release, the jurors praised “Heated Rivalry” for its adept handling of intricate themes like sexuality and emotional connections, which have resonated with viewers and championed a positive portrayal of masculinity. The series, conceptualized by Montreal filmmaker Jacob Tierney and adapted from novels by Halifax writer Rachel Reid, delves into a clandestine romance between fictional hockey players Shane Hollander (portrayed by Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (played by Connor Storrie).
Jacob Tierney and the official Instagram account of the show expressed gratitude for the accolade, emphasizing the complexity and depth of the narrative. Rachel Reid also shared her pride in the achievement with a joyful emoticon. The winners of the 86th Annual Peabody Awards are set to be celebrated at a ceremony in Los Angeles on May 31st.
