Maggie Kang, the creative mind behind the acclaimed animated movie “KPop Demon Hunters,” has been honored with the key to the city of Toronto, her hometown. The special recognition was presented by Mayor Olivia Chow during a panel discussion at Departure Festival celebrating the success of the film.
Mayor Chow commended Kang, a Korean-Canadian filmmaker, for her remarkable achievements, noting that her journey serves as an inspiration for future generations. Kang, visibly moved by the gesture, stood on stage alongside Mayor Chow and Cindy Gouveia, the president of Sheridan College, where Kang studied.
“KPop Demon Hunters” has made history as Netflix’s most-watched film to date, accompanied by a chart-topping soundtrack and plans for a sequel. During the panel, Kang hinted at the upcoming project, expressing her commitment to maintaining the same level of dedication and passion as she did for the original film.
In recognition of her cultural contributions, Kang is set to receive the cultural innovator award at the Departure Honours gala later that day. The anticipation for her future endeavors remains high as fans eagerly await the next chapter in Kang’s creative journey.
