Hyundai Canada has announced a safety recall for select 2024–2026 Elantra Hybrid vehicles due to a potential fire hazard. The recall affects 6,082 cars in Canada. Hyundai confirmed that there have been no reported fires, incidents, injuries, or fatalities related to this issue in Canada. In the United States, 54,337 vehicles have been recalled for the same issue, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The problem is linked to an issue with the hybrid power control unit in certain vehicles, which could lead to overheating. The NHTSA warns that this could result in a “no start” condition or reduced power mode in most cases, potentially escalating to overheating and a fire risk.
Hyundai stated that it will notify all impacted drivers and provide a complimentary software update to address the overheating concern.
