Canadian speed skater Valerie Maltais secured two silver medals at the conclusion of the latest World Cup competition on Sunday. Hailing from Saguenay, Quebec, Maltais clinched second place in the women’s mass start event with a time of 8 minutes 25.62 seconds. Mia Manganello from the United States claimed the gold medal with a time of 8:25.57, while Ji-Woo Park from South Korea took the bronze with a time of 9:01.80.
Additionally, in the women’s team pursuit, Maltais, together with Ivanie Blondin and Isabelle Weidemann, both from Ottawa, earned a silver medal with a time of 2:52.40. Japan secured the gold with a time of 2:52.13, and the United States took home the bronze with a time of 2:54.01.
On the men’s side, Antoine Gelinas-Beaulieu from Sherbrooke, Quebec, claimed the bronze in the men’s mass start event with a time of 7:40.31. He was surpassed only by Jorrit Bergsma from the Netherlands, who finished in 7:39.20, and Felix Maly from Germany, who finished in 7:40.17.
The competition showcased outstanding performances from the athletes, with Maltais and Gelinas-Beaulieu making their mark on the international stage.
