A one-year-old girl has been safely located after an Amber Alert, while authorities are now searching for her father in connection with a deadly shooting in Brampton, Ontario. The Ontario Provincial Police issued the alert at 5 p.m., which was later terminated after about two hours. Constable Mandeep Khatra informed reporters that the child was found unharmed by the police and is believed to have been left with family members.
Refusing to disclose the exact location where the child was discovered, Khatra revealed that the 38-year-old father of the girl, who allegedly took her, is now wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman earlier on the same day. The incident took place in a plaza parking lot near Queen Street E. and Airport Road, with officers responding shortly before 2 p.m. The victim was declared deceased at the scene.
Reportedly, the suspect fled the area in a vehicle with the child in the rear seat. Describing the situation as likely related to intimate partners, Khatra emphasized the ongoing search for the suspect, refraining from disclosing the deceased woman’s identity.
Police detailed that the suspect is believed to have departed the Niagara Region. The suspect is driving a Black 2024 Nissan Kicks with Quebec license plate FRV4520, and is described as a five-foot-nine individual weighing 175 pounds, with a slim build, clean-shaven, short brown hair, and hazel eyes. He was last observed wearing a dark hoodie, blue jeans, and carrying a black crossbody bag.
Residents in the Crystal Beach area of Fort Erie were asked to secure their homes, although it was later stated by the police that the suspect had likely left the area. Authorities have warned that the suspect is armed and dangerous, urging anyone who spots him to contact 911 immediately without approaching him or the vehicle.
Investigators are seeking assistance from individuals who may have been in the vicinity at the time and possess dashboard or surveillance footage, or any relevant information related to the incident.
