The Toronto Blue Jays have included one of their top hitters, Bo Bichette, in the lineup for the upcoming World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Bichette, who had been sidelined since September 6 due to a left knee sprain, was named in the team’s 26-man roster for the best-of-seven series.
Scheduled to play at second base and bat in the cleanup position, Bichette’s return was confirmed by the Blue Jays just before Game 1 at Rogers Centre on Friday night. In addition to Bichette, outfielders Myles Straw and Davis Schneider were also given starting roles, with Nathan Lukes, Addison Barger, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa available as substitutes.
Recent progress was seen in Bichette’s performance as he practiced running the bases, participated in defensive drills, and continued his hitting practice in the batting cage. The Blue Jays also made changes to their roster, adding infielder Ty France while removing reliever Yariel Rodriguez and outfielder Joey Loperfido.
During a media day availability, Bichette expressed his willingness to contribute in any capacity necessary for the team’s success. The team opted for a lineup of 14 position players and 12 pitchers for the Fall Classic, deviating from the 13-13 mix used in the previous ALCS victory over the Mariners.
Bichette, a two-time American League hits leader, had an impressive regular season performance with 181 hits and a .311 batting average, placing him second behind New York’s Aaron Judge. The player emphasized the importance of fulfilling his role effectively rather than seeking heroics.
As the Blue Jays prepare for the World Series, the Dodgers also made adjustments to their roster, including the addition of right-handers Edgardo Henriquez and Will Klein. Notably, veteran pitcher Clayton Kershaw, a three-time Cy Young winner, is set to feature in the series after being absent from previous playoff rounds. Kershaw, who intends to retire after this season, brings a wealth of experience to the Dodgers’ pitching lineup.
