Britney Spears has recently checked herself into a substance abuse treatment facility following her arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. A spokesperson for Spears confirmed that the 44-year-old singer voluntarily entered the facility. The incident occurred on March 5 when the California Highway Patrol received a report about a BMW driving recklessly on U.S. 101 in Ventura County near the Los Angeles County line. After undergoing field sobriety tests, Spears was apprehended for driving under the influence of a mix of alcohol and drugs. She was later released from custody after being taken to a county jail.
The case was handed over to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office on March 23 for a decision on potential charges against Spears prior to her court appearance scheduled for May 4. A spokesperson previously criticized Spears’s actions as “completely inexcusable” and emphasized the necessity for significant changes in her life.
Having taken a step back from her music career, Spears has not embarked on a tour in nearly eight years and has not released an album in almost a decade. In 2021, she regained autonomy over her personal and financial decisions when a conservatorship, which had been in place for almost 14 years, was terminated. Subsequently, she penned a successful memoir titled “The Woman in Me” two years later. The conservatorship was put into effect following Spears’s stint at a California rehab center in 2007.
