Canada’s Moise Bombito, a defender, has been included in the men’s national team squad for upcoming matches against Australia and Colombia during the October FIFA international window. The Canadian team, now ranked at a record high of No. 26 in FIFA’s world rankings, is scheduled to face No. 25 Australia in Montreal on October 10 and then confront No. 14 Colombia in New Jersey on October 14.
Bombito recently made a comeback after being sidelined for four months due to wrist surgery and a tibia stress fracture, which caused him to miss last summer’s Canadian Shield, Concacaf Gold Cup, and the September international matches. The OGC Nice center back showcased his skills during a recent match against Paris FC, playing the full 90 minutes.
Having gained recognition during the 2024 Copa America for his performance alongside Derek Cornelius, Bombito made a move to Nice from the Colorado Rapids, where he excelled with 35 appearances across all competitions last season. In the absence of Bombito, Luc de Fougerolles impressively filled in at central defense during the team’s victories against Romania and Wales in the previous friendlies.
Canada’s head coach, Jesse Marsch, expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress in September, emphasizing their ability to compete against strong opponents in challenging environments. The upcoming matches in October present an exciting opportunity for the team to continue their positive momentum, with a sold-out crowd expected in Montreal.
The squad has seen the return of goalkeeper James Pantemis, alongside familiar faces like Liam Millar and Jonathan Osorio. Notable players on the 24-man roster include Juventus striker Jonathan David and FC Porto’s vice-captain Stephen Eustaquio. However, the team continues to miss key players such as Alphonso Davis, Alistair Johnston, and Sam Adekugbe due to injuries.
Looking ahead, Canada will face Ecuador and Venezuela in November as part of their journey towards co-hosting the 2026 World Cup with Mexico and the United States. The team’s roster boasts a mix of experienced players and promising talents across various clubs worldwide.
