In the West Bank, Israel has been constructing settlements since the 1960s, which are considered illegal under international law and criticized by the Canadian government. These settlements have been associated with instances of violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians whose homes are being demolished for construction purposes.
A recent investigation by CBC’s the fifth estate has revealed that Canadian charities have indirectly supported organizations backing the expanding settlements, including the Israeli military. Despite violating regulations governing registered Canadian charities, these donations have been accompanied by tax receipts.
