Canadian defender Moise Bombito, a key player for OGC Nice, has encountered another setback due to injury. The 25-year-old from Montreal sustained a fractured left tibia during a recent match against Monaco in the French Ligue 1. This unfortunate incident follows Bombito’s return to action after being sidelined for four months due to wrist surgery and a previous tibia stress fracture. The defender was aiming to join the Canadian national team for upcoming friendlies against Australia and Colombia but will now face another period of recovery.
During the game against Monaco, Bombito suffered the injury in the 50th minute while attempting to intercept a pass from Jordan Teze to Folarin Balogun. As a result, he was stretchered off the field, leaving his team at a disadvantage. Despite the injury, Bombito received a yellow card, and Monaco capitalized on the ensuing penalty kick to level the score at 2-2.
The Canadian national team expressed support for Bombito through a social media post. To fill the void left by Bombito’s absence, Kamal Miller of the Portland Timbers has been called up to the squad. Coach Jesse Marsch praised Bombito’s abilities and expressed optimism about his future contributions to the national team.
In light of the injury, Marsch emphasized the importance of managing Bombito’s return carefully to prevent further setbacks. With players like Luc de Fougerolles stepping in during Bombito’s absence, the Canadian team is facing challenges with several key players, including captain Alphonso Davies, Alistair Johnston, and Sam Adekugbe, also sidelined due to injuries.
Canada, currently ranked at a record No. 26 in the FIFA world rankings, is gearing up to face Australia and Colombia in upcoming matches, aiming to maintain their strong position on the international stage.
