Canadian swimming star Summer McIntosh has had to pull out of the initial leg of the World Cup tour in Carmel, Indiana this weekend due to illness. In a statement shared on her social media, McIntosh expressed disappointment about not being able to compete and is now focusing on recuperation. It remains uncertain if she will be able to participate in the upcoming event in Westmount, Illinois. The championship will conclude at the Pan Am Sports Centre in Toronto from October 23-25.
The World Cup tour, consisting of three high-stakes events, features renowned swimmers from around the globe, including Olympic and world champions. A substantial prize purse of $1.2 million is up for grabs, with a $10,000 bonus for any swimmer setting a world record during the competition.
Moreover, there is an additional $10,000 prize for the swimmer who can achieve the World Aquatics “crown” by winning a single event across all three tour stops. McIntosh is one of the Canadian athletes scheduled to participate, alongside other notable names like Josh Liendo, Kylie Masse, Mary-Sophie Harvey, and Ilya Kharun.
International stars joining the competition include Leon Marchand, Noe Ponti, Mollie O’Callaghan, Regan Smith, Thomas Ceccon, and Kaylee McKeown. McIntosh, who recently relocated to Austin, Texas to train with renowned coach Bob Bowman, had an impressive showing at the world aquatics championships earlier this year, securing four gold medals and a bronze, a remarkable feat in swimming history.
