“Catherine O’Hara Wins Best Female Actor in Comedy Series Posthumously”

Catherine O’Hara was posthumously honored with the award for best female actor in a comedy series during the recent Actor Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. The renowned Canadian comedic actress passed away on January 30 at the age of 71 due to a blood clot in her lung, a detail not previously disclosed as she was also privately battling rectal cancer.

O’Hara clinched the award for her portrayal of Patty Leigh, a seasoned former studio executive in the Apple TV comedy series “The Studio,” a satirical take on the entertainment industry. She triumphed over a lineup of esteemed nominees, including Jenna Ortega for “Wednesday,” Jean Smart for “Hacks,” Kristen Wiig for “Palm Royale,” and Kathryn Hahn for her role in the same series.

The audience at the Shine Auditorium erupted in cheers and a standing ovation upon O’Hara’s win, with co-creator of “The Studio,” Seth Rogen, accepting the accolade on her behalf. Rogen praised O’Hara’s talent, kindness, and creative contributions to the show, highlighting her ability to elevate scenes with her suggestions, ultimately enhancing the entire production.

The event, previously known as the SAG Awards, also saw “The Studio” dominating the comedy categories, securing victories for best comedy series and Rogen’s own performance. O’Hara, celebrated for her iconic roles in SCTV skits, classic movies like “Home Alone” and “Beetlejuice,” and the beloved character Moira Rose in “Schitt’s Creek,” had previously won two Actor Awards for her work on the latter show before her passing.
