Corryn Brown remains undefeated at PointsBet Invitational

Corryn Brown maintained her unbeaten streak at the PointsBet Invitational curling event by defeating Kate Cameron 10-6 in Calgary on Friday. Hailing from Kamloops, B.C., Brown’s team secured a 3-0 record, securing the top position in the women’s Pool B.

Despite a strong effort from Cameron’s rink from St. Adolphe, Man., which scored two points in the eighth end and stole one in the ninth to narrow the score to 7-6, Brown capitalized on the hammer in the final end to secure the victory.

Following the loss to Brown, Cameron’s team dropped to a 1-3 standing after being defeated by Selena Sturmay of Edmonton (2-2) with a score of 6-4 in the late Friday draw. Meanwhile, Kerri Einarson from Gimli, Man., secured the second spot in Pool B with a 2-1 record after an 11-4 win over Sturmay.

In the women’s Pool A category, Kaitlyn Lawes from Winnipeg climbed to the second position with a 2-1 standing following a convincing 10-3 victory over Myla Plett from Edmonton, who sits at 1-3.

Christina Black from Halifax notched her first win with an 8-5 triumph over Beth Peterson from Winnipeg, bringing both teams to a 1-2 record. Ottawa’s Rachel Homan leads Pool A with an undefeated 3-0 record after defeating Myla Plett of Edmonton 12-4 in the late Friday session.

Transitioning to the men’s matches, Mike McEwen from Winnipeg defeated Rylan Kleiter from Saskatoon 7-2, maintaining a perfect 3-0 record in men’s Pool B. In another game, John Epping’s team from Toronto triumphed over Cal MacIsaac from Truro, N.S., with a score of 8-5, securing the top spot in men’s Pool A at 3-0, while MacIsaac dropped to 0-3.

Brad Jacobs from Calgary improved his standing to 2-1 in Pool A with an 8-5 win over Brad Gushue from St. John’s, Nfld., who now holds a 1-2 record. Jordon McDonald from Winnipeg pulled into a tie for second place in Pool B by defeating Matt Dunstone 10-5, both teams now holding identical 2-1 records.

The final round-robin matches are set for Saturday, leading up to the championship games on Sunday, where the top teams from each pool will compete for the tournament’s $300,000 prize purse.
