Cricket Canada has taken immediate action by suspending its chief executive officer, Salman Khan, while ensuring he continues to receive full pay and benefits. The decision was made to uphold the organization’s integrity and ensure fairness in the process, according to Cricket Canada president Amjad Bajwa.
Khan and another individual were charged with theft and fraud over $5,000 related to their involvement with the Calgary and District Cricket League, although Khan denied the allegations as “completely false” in a social media post through the Alberta Cricket Association.
Bajwa mentioned that Khan’s suspension was due to the negative impact associated with him, although the charges against Khan have not yet been proven in court. Cricket Canada disclosed that an independent special committee, along with external legal counsel, is conducting a comprehensive review, although the specifics of the review were not detailed.
Despite these developments, Cricket Canada reiterated its commitment to its vision, mission, players, and the broader Canadian cricket community. In a related development, Cricket Canada was temporarily suspended from the Canadian Safe Sport Program for failing to meet certain participant requirements, but has since been reinstated after fulfilling the necessary criteria as stated by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport.
