“Ernie Clement Sets MLB Record with 30 Post-season Hits”

Ernie Clement of the Toronto Blue Jays made history in Game 7 of the World Series by securing three hits, setting a new MLB record with 30 hits in a single post-season. This achievement surpassed the previous record held by Randy Arozarena, who had 29 hits while playing for the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2020 playoffs.

During the 2021 post-season, the Blue Jays played 18 games across three playoff rounds, while the Rays played 20 games in four playoff rounds in a season affected by the pandemic. Despite their remarkable performances, both teams ultimately fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.

Clement’s standout Game 7 performance included a second-inning single, a sixth-inning single with a run scored, and a record-breaking leadoff double in the eighth inning that led to Dodgers reliever Emmet Sheehan’s exit. This stellar display extended Clement’s hitting streak to 13 games, a new Blue Jays post-season record, surpassing Pat Borders’ 12-game streak in the 1992 World Series.

In his debut post-season appearance, Clement boasted a batting average of .411 with 30 hits, one home run, and nine RBIs in 73 at-bats. Despite going 3-for-5 in Game 7, the Blue Jays suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 loss in 11 innings against the Dodgers.

Clement came close to clinching the championship for Toronto in the ninth inning, hitting a deep drive to left-center field with the bases loaded but was caught on the warning track, leading to extra innings with a tied score of 4-4. Reflecting on the emotional rollercoaster, Clement expressed his overwhelming feelings after the game.

Initially drafted by Cleveland in 2017, Clement’s journey led him to the Blue Jays after stints with the Athletics. He showcased his versatility by playing in 157 games in the 2025 regular season, featuring in all four infield positions and delivering solid offensive numbers with a .277 average, nine home runs, and 50 RBIs. Notably, he achieved career-high figures in 2024 with 12 home runs and 51 RBIs for Toronto.
