“Fire at Manitoba Families Minister’s Office Under Investigation”

A fire broke out at the constituency office of Manitoba Families Minister Nahanni Fontaine in West Kildonan early on Tuesday morning, following a recent incident where the windows were vandalized. Firefighters responded to the St. Johns MLA’s office located at 1763 Main St. just before 5 a.m., as confirmed by Winnipeg police in communication with CBC News.

The fire was swiftly brought under control by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service around 5:30 a.m., with a thorough search of the building revealing no occupants inside. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and damage assessments are pending. The police’s Major Crimes unit is currently investigating the incident.

Northbound Main Street was reopened for traffic at 6:10 a.m. after being temporarily closed due to the fire response. Premier Wab Kinew’s office spokesperson described the event as a “serious matter” and refrained from further comments, deferring to the ongoing police investigation.

Meanwhile, at the Southern Chiefs’ Organization’s annual Orange Shirt Healing Walk at Oodena Circle in The Forks, Premier Wab Kinew addressed the crowd about the rise of political tensions in North America, urging Manitobans to maintain peace and composure. He expressed solidarity with Nahanni Fontaine, emphasizing the importance of ensuring safety for all individuals at their workplaces.

The Premier’s supportive remarks come amidst a challenging period, with investigations ongoing to determine the cause and implications of the incident at Minister Fontaine’s office.
