“Five Canadian Provinces Raise Minimum Wage Rates Today”

Five Canadian provinces are increasing their minimum wage rates today to provide support for workers facing affordability challenges. The wage hikes will impact workers in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. These provinces have aligned their wage adjustments with Canada’s rising consumer price index, reflecting the ongoing inflationary trends. Specifically, Ontario has raised its minimum wage to $17.60 per hour, while Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island have set theirs at $16.50 per hour. Manitoba’s minimum wage now stands at $16 per hour, and Saskatchewan’s at $15.35 per hour. Notably, Alberta remains the sole province that has not raised its minimum wage, keeping it at $15 per hour, the lowest rate in the country. Earlier this year, British Columbia, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador had already increased their minimum wage rates.
