Flavor Flav Joins Team USA Bobsled Squad

At 66 years old, Flavor Flav experienced the thrill of speeding at 106 kilometers per hour, sparking his interest in sliding sports. The latest addition to the United States bobsled and skeleton program is the renowned Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, founding member of Public Enemy, reality TV personality, and now an aspiring slider. USA Bobsled and Skeleton officially introduced Flav as their new hype man on Monday following his time spent with the team at the 2002 Olympic track in Utah.

Flav expressed his excitement about the partnership, deeming it a blessing and even likened it to “Cool Runnings.” The 66-year-old, whose legal name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., engaged with the bobsled and skeleton teams, attempting both sports on the Park City track. Despite safety precautions suggesting a low starting point for first-timers, Flav insisted on beginning from a higher spot, showcasing his daring spirit. Ultimately, he achieved a speed of 108 km/h on his second run.

U.S. skeleton athlete Dan Barefoot praised Flav’s adventurous and cool demeanor, acknowledging his impressive skills in the sport. Flav’s involvement in sports extends beyond sliding, as seen in his diverse engagements such as being a celebrity mayo-pourer at the Mayo Bowl and supporting Olympians like discus thrower Veronica Fraley.

Having energized the team with his presence, Flav’s influence has created a positive atmosphere among the athletes. His commitment to the USA Bobsled and Skeleton program has been well-received, with plans for further involvement post-Olympics. CEO Aron McGuire expressed enthusiasm for having Flavor Flav as an official sponsor and hype man, recognizing his genuine passion for sports and dedication to the team.
