“Homan Secures 3-Peat at PointsBet Invitational”

Rachel Homan extended her reign over Canadian women’s curling on Sunday. Almost a year since her last defeat to a Canadian opponent, Homan sealed a flawless week at the PointsBet Invitational with a 6-2 win against Corryn Brown from Kamloops, B.C., at Calgary’s WinSport Event Centre.

“We knew we had to bring our ‘A’ game today as they were playing great all week. It seemed like they were about to score big, but we capitalized on a few errors to take the lead,” stated Homan.

Despite trailing 1-0, Brown missed opportunities in the fourth and fifth ends, resulting in steals for Homan’s team. Known as the “Homan Empire,” falling behind early against them is often fatal.

Homan’s Ottawa-based squad, including Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew, and Sarah Wilkes, last tasted defeat against a Canadian team on October 6, 2024. Since then, they have clinched 27 consecutive victories against fellow Canadians.

“We must continue improving throughout the season. That’s our main focus,” said Homan, who now boasts three consecutive PointsBet Invitational titles alongside back-to-back wins at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and the world women’s curling championship.

Later that Sunday, Matt Dunstone from Winnipeg triumphed over Brad Jacobs from Calgary in a thrilling men’s final, securing his first PointsBet Invitational crown after losing in the finals in 2022 and 2023.

Homan’s team remains focused on the upcoming Canadian Olympic trials in Halifax from November 22-30, aiming to secure a spot to represent Canada at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Italy. Despite the loss, Brown expressed satisfaction with her team’s progress throughout the week, highlighting their improvement and resilience despite the final outcome.
