Israeli airstrikes kill 90+ in Gaza, including women and children

Israeli airstrikes in Gaza resulted in the deaths of over 90 Palestinians, including numerous women and children, as efforts to secure a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel faced delays. Among the casualties were a 68-year-old Hamas member of the Palestinian legislature, a family of eight, and 19 members of another family. The strikes targeted various locations, including a refugee camp and a house in Gaza City.

The Israeli military has not responded to these incidents. Gaza’s Health Ministry reported 93 fatalities and 278 injuries from Israeli strikes in the past 24 hours. The deceased include a Hamas politician and civilians. Hamas, which took control of Gaza in 2007, has a tumultuous history with the Fatah faction.

The UN reported 875 killings near aid points and convoys in Gaza over six weeks, with the majority occurring at Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) sites. The GHF, supported by the U.S. and Israel, uses private security firms for aid distribution. The UN criticized this model as unsafe and not impartial.

Israel has faced international scrutiny for civilian casualties, with over 58,400 Palestinians killed and 139,000 wounded since Hamas’s 2023 attack. The ongoing conflict has displaced thousands and led to food shortages. In the West Bank, settler attacks on Palestinians have increased, leading to forced displacements and violations of international law.

The situation remains volatile, with Israel’s pledge to dismantle Hamas and the UN’s concerns over escalating violence in Gaza and the West Bank. Peace efforts continue amid the escalating violence and humanitarian crisis in the region.
