Kendrick Lamar emerges as the frontrunner for the upcoming 2026 Grammy Awards, potentially clinching a total of nine accolades. Notably, he secured nominations in three major categories: record, song, and album of the year. This achievement marks his third time being simultaneously nominated in these prestigious categories. Additionally, he and SZA made history as the first duo partners to each receive two record of the year nominations.
With an impressive track record of 22 Grammy wins and 66 nominations, Kendrick Lamar’s latest album, “GNX,” stands out as his fifth consecutive studio album to be recognized in the album of the year category. If successful, it would mark his first win in this coveted category and only the third time a rap album has claimed the top prize since Lauryn Hill in 1999 and Outkast in 2004.
The album of the year category this year presents a unique scenario where none of the nominees have previously won the award. Among the contenders are Bad Bunny’s “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” Justin Bieber’s “Swag,” and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Man’s Best Friend.” Noteworthy is the presence of three rap albums in this category, with Bad Bunny’s all-Spanish language album, “Un Verano Sin Ti,” being the second of its kind to be nominated.
Following Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, producer Jack Antonoff, and Canadian producer-songwriter Cirkut closely trail with seven nominations each. Lady Gaga, like Lamar, is nominated for song, record, and album of the year simultaneously for the first time in her career. Jack Antonoff received double nominations in the record, album, and song of the year categories for his collaborations with Lamar and Sabrina Carpenter. Meanwhile, Cirkut received nominations for his work on Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra” and Rosé and Bruno Mars’s “APT.,” among others.
Canadian artist Justin Bieber has garnered nominations across various categories, including best pop vocal album and album of the year for “Swag,” best pop solo performance for “Daises,” and best R&B performance for “Yukon.” His potential wins could signify a promising return for Bieber, who is slated to headline Coachella in April 2026.
The 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sun, Feb. 1, live from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The event promises to showcase a diverse lineup of nominees, from established artists to first-time contenders, setting the stage for an exciting and competitive celebration of musical talent.
