Kiefer Sutherland Arrested After Altercation in LA

Actor Kiefer Sutherland was taken into custody in the early hours of Monday following a reported altercation involving a ride-hailing driver in Los Angeles, as per authorities. The incident occurred shortly past midnight at the junction of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Ave., just south of Hollywood Hills.

The Los Angeles Police Department stated that the 59-year-old Canadian actor, known for his Emmy award-winning performances, allegedly assaulted the ride-hailing driver and issued criminal threats towards them. Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any significant injuries requiring medical attention at the time, according to law enforcement.

Law enforcement officials arrested Sutherland on suspicion of making criminal threats. He was subsequently released from detention a few hours later upon posting a $50,000 US bond, as indicated by jail records. His initial court appearance is set for Feb. 2, as per the same records.

An email seeking comment from Sutherland’s representatives went unanswered immediately.

Sutherland gained fame for his iconic portrayal of federal agent Jack Bauer on the Fox TV series “24” and its various offshoots. Additionally, he starred in notable films like “The Lost Boys” and “Young Guns,” and featured in movies such as “Stand by Me” and “A Few Good Men,” directed by Rob Reiner.

He hails from a distinguished acting lineage, being the son of Canadian actors Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, and the grandson of former Saskatchewan premier Tommy Douglas, renowned for introducing universal healthcare in Canada.
