“Los Angeles Unveils Competition Schedule for 2028 Paralympics”

Los Angeles celebrated reaching the milestone of 1,000 days until its inaugural Paralympic Games by disclosing an initial competition schedule for the 2028 event. The LA28 organizing committee revealed that the Games would encompass 23 sports and 560 medal events spread across 294 sessions, a configuration crafted in collaboration with international federations and Olympic Broadcasting Services to prioritize athlete well-being while maximizing global broadcast opportunities.

Ileana Rodriguez, LA28’s vice president of Paralympic strategy and relations, emphasized the significance of Los Angeles hosting its first Paralympic Games, highlighting the inclusive approach taken to cater to both athletes and the worldwide audience. Mayor Karen Bass underscored that the upcoming event would feature a record number of female athletes competing on the global stage.

Scheduled to commence on August 15, 2028, at SoFi Stadium, the 2028 Paralympics will conclude on August 27 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The first day of competition will witness the crowning of Paralympic champions in various sports such as Para athletics, wheelchair fencing, shooting Para sport, Para equestrian, and Para track cycling.

Para climbing will make its much-anticipated Paralympic debut during four days of competition starting from Day 9, with wheelchair rugby and sitting volleyball incorporating extended formats including play-in rounds. Detailed event schedules are set to be released closer to the Games in 2026.
