Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev was hospitalized following an on-ice incident in Saturday night’s 5-2 triumph against the Philadelphia Flyers. Tanev, who had been out for four games due to a concussion, collided with Flyers’ forward Matvei Michkov in the third period. Despite the collision being shoulder-to-shoulder, Tanev’s head jolted back, leading to him lying face down on the ice.
Medical staff promptly attended to Tanev, stabilizing his head and neck before transporting him off the rink on a stretcher. Berube, the head coach, confirmed that Tanev had movement in all his extremities and was undergoing tests at a Philadelphia hospital. There was a possibility that Tanev might return to Toronto with the team after the evaluation.
Berube expressed optimism about Tanev’s condition, stating, “He’s showing signs of movement, and we are hopeful for a positive outcome.” Tanev’s presence was missed on the ice, but his teammates, including goal-scorer Auston Matthews, rallied around him, sending their thoughts and well wishes his way.
