New findings, including a possible admission, have surfaced in a probe by CBC’s investigative program the fifth estate concerning the mysterious vanishing of an individual in the northern region of British Columbia.
Cole Hosack disappeared on the night of New Year’s Eve in 2023 after departing from a bar in Dawson Creek, situated 1,200 kilometers north of Vancouver.
The inquiry forms part of a CBC podcast named The Mile Zero Murders, launched as a segment of the CBC’s Uncover series, after a comprehensive two-year exploration into a series of vanishing incidents and homicides within the 13,000-resident community.
Within the last five years, a total of fifteen individuals have either gone missing or been killed, with nine of these cases occurring in 2023 alone, including the disappearance of Hosack. The RCMP has expressed their belief that Hosack is no longer alive.
The fifth episode of the podcast, accessible on Mondays, features an interview with an undisclosed source recounting a conversation in which a person purportedly confessed to playing a role in Hosack’s disappearance on the night he went missing.
The source shared with the fifth estate, “He openly acknowledged in front of several people that he was significantly involved in Cole Hosack’s absence and that it was an unintended occurrence.” The identity of the source is being safeguarded due to safety concerns.
The individual reportedly heard confessing is a local 29-year-old resident named Matt Lawton, who, as per other informants, has ties to the drug scene in Dawson Creek.
“[Lawton] somewhat confessed that they had picked [Hosack] up, citing his debt to them for drugs,” the source mentioned.
Upon being confronted by the fifth estate, Lawton refuted any connection to Hosack’s disappearance, claiming unfamiliarity with the name Cole Hosack.
“I’m not aware of who that is,” Lawton informed podcast host and fifth estate producer, Timothy Sawa, who clarified that Hosack went missing while visiting Dawson Creek in 2023.
“I have no idea,” Lawton reiterated.
