The Women’s Professional Baseball League announced on Tuesday that it has selected New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco as the cities where the four teams will compete in the league’s inaugural season. Co-founded by Justine Siegal, the league plans to launch in 2026 with six teams, featuring a regular season, playoffs, and an all-star game.
This league marks the first professional women’s baseball league since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League disbanded in 1954. The inaugural season will start with four teams, each consisting of 15 players. The top 100 players from the league’s summer tryouts will participate in the upcoming draft, which will include notable players like Mo’ne Davis, Kelsie Whitmore from USA baseball, and Japanese pitcher Ayami Sato.
All games in the WPBL’s 2026 season will be held at a neutral venue, to be announced later. The league chose the four cities based on their market size and strong fan base. Justine Siegal expressed excitement, stating that these cities are known for their sports history, and they look forward to engaging with fans across the country.
