Rapper Nicki Minaj proclaimed herself as a devoted admirer of U.S. President Donald Trump during a public appearance at a Treasury Department summit. Trump, introducing Minaj as the most successful female rapper in history, mentioned that she would be generously contributing hundreds of thousands of dollars to his new “Trump accounts.” This endorsement followed Minaj’s ongoing public support for the president.
Minaj expressed her unwavering support for Trump, stating, “I am probably the president’s No. 1 fan. And that’s not going to change. And the hate or what people have to say — it does not affect me at all. It actually motivates me to support him more.” She later showcased a Trump gold card visa on social media, highlighting her involvement in a program facilitating permanent residency and citizenship for highly skilled foreign individuals willing to pay a $1-million US fee.
Despite her previous criticisms of Trump, including his family-separation policy, Minaj’s stance shifted over time. Her change in perspective became more pronounced around the period when Trump downplayed the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic. Minaj opted out of attending the 2021 Met Gala due to vaccination requirements, citing her decision not to receive the COVID vaccine. She also shared unverified claims about the vaccine’s side effects, which were later refuted by health authorities.
Minaj’s alignment with Trump intensified from 2025 onwards, with her active promotion of his policies against trans athletes and immigration. This culminated in her participation in a United Nations event organized by the Trump administration, focusing on the challenges faced by Christians in Nigeria. Despite receiving backlash for her support of Trump, Minaj continued to stand by her newfound political stance.
The rapper’s shift towards Trump drew criticism, especially from her LGBTQ fanbase, given her past advocacy for LGBTQ rights. While some fans felt betrayed by Minaj’s alignment with Trump, she is not the only public figure to show support for the president. Various hip hop artists and political figures have also expressed varying levels of support for Trump, highlighting the complexities of public figures navigating political affiliations.
