Singer D4vd is currently under investigation by a Los Angeles County grand jury regarding the death of a 14-year-old girl. The girl’s decomposed body was discovered in an abandoned Tesla linked to the singer, which was towed from the Hollywood Hills. Legal documents revealed that prosecutors have identified the 20-year-old singer, born in Houston as David Burke, as the central figure in the ongoing investigation. The grand jury issued subpoenas on Jan. 15, summoning three of D4vd’s relatives to testify.
Although the investigation has been kept confidential in California, the documents were disclosed following a legal challenge from the singer’s family members in Texas. The court records suggest that the individual under scrutiny might have committed a violation of California state law, specifically a charge of Murder.
According to court filings, the Tesla was registered under D4vd’s name at the residence of the family members who received the subpoenas. While authorities have not officially named D4vd as a suspect in the case, the deceased, Celeste Rivas Hernandez, was found on Sept. 8, a day after what would have been her 15th birthday. She was reported missing by her family in 2024 from Lake Elsinore, located about 112 kilometers southeast of Los Angeles.
The documents detail the grim scene where investigators found the girl’s body in a cadaver bag inside the Tesla, emitting a strong odor of decay and infested with insects. Additional findings revealed severe decomposition and dismemberment of the body parts. Despite repeated attempts to reach out to D4vd for comments, representatives have not responded to inquiries, and the District Attorney’s Office has declined to provide further information.
Following the discovery, D4vd initially continued his U.S. tour but later canceled subsequent shows and an upcoming European tour after widespread media coverage tied him to the investigation. The cause of Rivas Hernandez’s death remains undisclosed as authorities have restricted the release of autopsy details. D4vd, known for his unique music style blending indie rock, R&B, and lo-fi pop, had gained popularity among younger audiences and achieved chart success with his hit song “Romantic Homicide” in 2022.
