Roman Sadovsky is fully embracing the competitive challenge ahead as he prepares for the battle to secure Canada’s lone men’s spot at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics. The reigning national men’s champion remains unfazed by the return of Keegan Messing and the resurgence of Stephen Gogolev in the figure skating scene.
Expressing his enthusiasm for competition, Sadovsky emphasized that facing strong rivals only fuels his motivation. This weekend, he will be among the 18 Canadian athletes participating in Skate Canada International in Saskatoon, a significant event in the Grand Prix circuit.
Hailing from Vaughan, Ontario, the 26-year-old clinched his second national title last January, positioning himself as a top contender for the Olympic spot until Messing’s unexpected comeback was announced in August. With Messing’s impressive past scores and Gogolev’s emerging talent, the competition is intensifying.
Despite the surprises and challenges in his skating journey, Sadovsky remains focused on his goals and training regimen. His coach, Tracey Wainman, highlighted Sadovsky’s resilience in the face of unexpected events, including filling in for Messing at the 2022 Olympics and overcoming logistical obstacles during competitions.
While Messing won’t be present at Skate Canada International, Sadovsky is set to compete against Gogolev once again. The upcoming event follows their previous encounters at the Cranberry Cup and Nebelhorn Trophy, showcasing their competitive dynamic.
As Sadovsky reflects on his career at 26, he acknowledges the significance of this season and the potential for it to be his last. However, he remains committed to his craft, attributing his recent success to mental maturity and consistency. Enjoying every moment on the ice, Sadovsky is determined to make the most of the current season and assess his future in the sport as it unfolds.
Embracing the heightened competition and challenges ahead, Sadovsky views the rivalries as essential for his growth and enjoyment in figure skating, emphasizing the thrill that comes with facing formidable opponents.
