A California court has rejected rapper Tory Lanez’s appeal of his guilty verdict for shooting a gun at Megan Thee Stallion. The California 2nd District Court of Appeal upheld the 32-year-old Canadian’s conviction on three felony counts, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and reckless discharge of a firearm.
The incident took place in July 2020 after leaving a party at Kylie Jenner’s residence, where Lanez allegedly shot at Megan’s feet and demanded that she dance while walking away from the vehicle they were in. Megan sustained bullet fragments in both feet, necessitating surgical removal. Despite initially not identifying Lanez as the shooter, she later publicly confirmed his involvement.
Lanez, also known as Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year sentence at the California Men’s Colony following an altercation with another inmate at California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. Lanez, who began his music career in 2009 with mixtapes before achieving mainstream success with top-charting albums, has not yet commented on the recent court ruling. Both Lanez’s attorneys and Megan’s representatives have not responded to requests for comments on the matter. Lanez still has the option to petition the California Supreme Court for further appeal.
