Vivienne Jolie-Pitt Seeks Name Change, Following Siblings

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Vivienne has expressed her desire to legally change her last name by removing “Pitt.” This decision follows similar actions taken by her siblings in officially dropping their father’s surname.

According to records from the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Vivienne, who turned 18 on July 12, submitted a petition to modify her name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie citing “personal” reasons. In California, once a person reaches 18 years of age, they are allowed to make such changes independently without parental consent.

Vivienne’s request aligns with her previous professional credits, such as being billed as Vivienne Jolie in the Broadway production “The Outsiders,” overseen by her mother Angelina. Notably, she is not the first of the siblings to pursue this change.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne. Shiloh made a similar adjustment in 2024, while Zahara and Maddox also sought to drop the Pitt name earlier this year. Maddox even appeared in the credits of Jolie’s film “Couture” as Maddox Jolie.

This development comes amidst longstanding family tensions following the high-profile separation of the celebrity couple in 2016, stemming from well-documented legal conflicts and allegations. Despite these challenges, the divorce was formally concluded in 2024 after more than a decade of togetherness and two years of marriage.

Pitt has publicly addressed his struggles with alcohol and his commitment to sobriety since 2016, crediting Alcoholics Anonymous for his progress over the past decade. Unlike Jolie, who frequently appears in public with their children and discusses them openly, Pitt has maintained a lower profile and has not been seen with his kids in public for an extended period.

Vivienne’s name change request is scheduled for a hearing on November 2, initially planned for October 30. A representative for Pitt was contacted for comment by CBC News but has not responded to inquiries.
