Mix-ups and mistaken identities are not uncommon occurrences. However, at Felicia Harding’s wedding on Vancouver Island this past summer, guests found it challenging to distinguish between the bride and her friend Brittany Delaney.
Despite the bride wearing a white dress, the two petite women with brown curly hair, bangs, and bright smiles were frequently mixed up by attendees. Even Felicia’s husband approached Brittany multiple times, mistaking her for the bride.
Recalling the event, Delaney mentioned, “Her husband came up to me a couple times and was like ‘Oh.'” The confusion extended beyond the guests, with many friends admitting they struggled to differentiate between the two women despite knowing Felicia was the one in the wedding dress.
This mix-up was not a new experience for the duo, as it was the initial spark that brought them together. Delaney, who operates Confections Cake Company in St. Albert, and Harding, a musician residing in Victoria, first connected six years ago when a mutual acquaintance pointed out their uncanny resemblance on social media.
Upon seeing photos of each other, they were taken aback by their striking likeness and decided to forge a friendship. Over the years, they bonded over their twin-like features, leading to their first in-person meeting in Edmonton.
Their physical similarities go hand in hand with shared West Coast roots, both hailing from Vancouver Island. Beyond appearances, the two entrepreneurs also share similar voices and mannerisms, further solidifying their connection.
Their friendship deepened to the extent that Delaney even crafted the wedding cake for Harding’s special day and personally delivered it to the island for the celebration. To explore their bond further, they underwent a DNA test, which revealed that they are not biologically related. However, they hope to obtain more genetic data from relatives to uncover potential familial ties on their paternal side.
Despite the lack of genetic connection, their friendship remains paramount, with their shared experiences and appearances continuing to surprise and delight them. The constant reminders of their striking resemblance, even after years of companionship, never fail to intrigue and amaze both Delaney and Harding.
